Colorado doesn’t need any more “well-intentioned” new housing related laws.
As a long-time investor in rental real estate and the Broker-Owner of a property management company, I’m dealing firsthand with the soul-crushing level of legislation Colorado politicians and their activist allies have forced upon the rental market in Colorado.
Why does Colorado keep inventing solutions to problems that don’t exist? Are the 52 laws passed in the last 6 years not enough?!
From 1999 through 2019—years of my direct involvement in this industry—only about 20-25 laws were passed. (Could not find a reliable exact number.) OK. Seems like a reasonable number over those 20 years. Shockingly, during these years most people managed fine without Colorado’s help to “improve” the housing market.
We always treat people fairly while operating ethically. Are there some bad actors in the industry? Maybe. But very few in my opinion. The market tends to sort them out. Why cause harm to an entire industry because of biased perceptions and the rants of the loudest complainers and activists?
Don’t these legislators represent ALL the people of Colorado? Or is it just the 26% of registered democrats? Is it any wonder that 50% of Colorado voters are unaffiliated?
